If you want another TV show based on a novel to get you through Droughtlander, look no further than Starz this month. The network brings an Original called Sweetbitter to your doorstep.
One thing Outlander offers is a steamy love story with plenty of ups and downs in life. Starz is looking to give you a slight modern day version of that with a new Original called Sweetbitter. Based on the national bestseller of the same name, it’s an excellent choice for those looking for something else to get them through Droughtlander.
Sweetbitter tells the story of Tess (Ella Purnell), who moves to New York in search of a new life. Once there, it doesn’t take long to land a job but she quickly finds herself in with the wrong crowd. Taken into a world of drugs, sex, and fine dining, she’s forced to navigate the alluring but dangerous life. Expect plenty of hot scenes, giving you something to keep you going while waiting for Claire and Jamie to reunite in Outlander Season 4.

While we’re used to a time-traveling love story, Sweetbitter is more about a young woman finding herself. The experiences she has will help turn her into the woman she will become in the future, almost like how Claire’s experiences in the past has molded her into the woman and mother she is in future novels.
Starz will kick-start the new series on May 6. It’s ordered for six episodes, all a half-hour in length each. So, while it’s not quite as deep as Outlander, you’ll have something to watch weekly until hopefully we finally get a Season 4 premiere date and even official news on the Outlander Season 5 renewal.
It’s the latest in a string of novel adaptations being brought to the Starz network. Just recently, Howards End was picked up, after airing on the BBC last year and The Spanish Princess has been confirmed after the success of The White Princess. This time, though, Starz is opting for a modern-day story to follow.
