Claire and Jamie will see a change to their sex life on Outlander. While some may be disappointed, it’s actually a good thing for the series…depending on how it’s actually handled.

Sam Heughan recently shared that Claire and Jamie’s sex life is going to change on Outlander. The episodes with their bedroom antics aren’t going to be as hot or sexy as it was before. After all, they’re getting older!

While many fans will be disappointed with this news, this could actually be a good thing. Of course, this will depend on how the sex life is handled. If done the right way, this could be empowering and positive for couples (and women, especially).

Hormones change as we get older

More from Opinion

Claire is reaching that stage in life when menopause is likely–that’s if it hasn’t started already. Remember she said she was 27 in the series. Considering those first two seasons were three years, we’re looking at her around 30 when she goes back to her own time period. Twenty years later, she’d be 50 when returning to Jamie.

Hormones change in women as we get older. Many women don’t want to get as frisky in the bedroom as they used to be, even if they were sexually charged individuals when younger! There’s nothing wrong with showing this realistic change. That doesn’t mean she doesn’t have to have sex at all, but that things change and she may not want it as much.

Showing this in a positive light is important. There’s so much stigma still around menopause and women getting older. We need to see how Claire goes through these changes and owns being a middle-aged woman.

Getting to enjoy each other’s company

There’s more to a relationship than sex. It’s time for Outlander to show that and Season 4 is going to be the best chance. For some fans of the couple, this could be viewed as a boring time. They get the chance to put down roots and live in relative safety for a short period. It’s their chance to connect to one another in a way they’ve never been able to before.

While we want to see them connect in the bedroom, this will be the perfect time to see them connect and bond in other ways. Hopefully, this is a chance for them to discuss their lost children, the 20-year gap, and their future plans.
