Caitriona Balfe let her ring do all the talking on the Golden Globes Red Carpet
Social media is abuzz with speculation over Caitriona Balfe’s engagement. The rumors started at the New Year, when an Instagram post included “newly engaged” while talking about the Outlander actress. However, nothing has been confirmed and it wasn’t until the Golden Globes Red Carpet that Balfe was spotted wearing a potential engagement ring.
It took the actress until the end of the night to finally confirm her engagement. The way she did it was so simple that it was epic.

When asked the question, Balfe shared that “It happened over the break. I’m very happy.”
What is it about the simplicity of the confirmation that makes it so awesome? Well, it follows everything Balfe has done in the past when it comes to her private life and relationships. She likes to keep her personal life relatively private. Her co-star Sam Heughan is very similar in that nature. There’s no need for fans to know absolutely every detail of the stars’ lives and they make it clear that they want certain aspects just for them and their loved ones.
This would also allow family members to be alerted first. Before the Golden Globes there was no sign of the engagement ring and no confirmation on social media whether the rumors were true. Balfe and her fiancé, Tony McGill, could let the people closest to them know and enjoy some peace together.
Balfe and Heughan are not the only actors who like privacy and make that clear to the press. Avengers star Scarlett Johansson refused to comment about the pregnancy rumors and hasn’t mentioned much about her daughter since the birth. Family Guy’s Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher have also kept most of the news about their growing family off social media and out of the press.
While Claire and Jamie want to congratulate Balfe and McGill on their engagement, we also want to say “we get it.” We fully respect your decision to keep things quiet and think it’s awesome. In a world full of paparazzi, rumors and fake news, keep doing what you’re doing!
