You’ve read every single book…hundreds of times
There are some who have read the main series once. They’ve wanted to see how it all ends (there are two books still to be published, so more reading yet) and love the story told between the couple. However, there are others who have gone a step further.
If you’re a fanatic, you will have read all the main books so many times that you’ve lost count. And then you’ve picked up the side stories, like the Lord John series. You’ve read the companions, got the cookbook and so much more. You’re engrossed in the beautiful tale of two soulmates from different times finding each other and the adventures they go on along the way.
You can recite the books word for word
And because you’ve read the books hundreds of times, you can now recite it all. There’s no need to ask questions in the Facebook groups for clarification. In fact, you’re the one answering all the questions when it comes to book moments or changes.
If you can’t quite recite the passages, you know exactly where they are in the books. You know enough to have a strong debate in discussions and will easily turn the page to support your arguments.

You’ve watched the series multiple times
Some fans watch an episode once and they’re happy. Others will watch a couple of times, just to cover elements they’ve missed. Not you! As an Outlander fanatic, you’ve watched every episode multiple times. You can’t get enough.
Okay, so there are some episodes you’ve watched more than others. It’s not easy sitting through “Wentworth Prison.” You’ll likely have a list of episodes that are your go-to when you’re feeling down and desperately need your Outlander fix.
And even though you have all the episodes on DVD, you will watch them when they come on TV. In fact, you’ll consider DVRing them, so you have multiple copies of your favorite time travelling love story.
You’ve been on an Outlander vacation
Heard that there are Outlander tours around Scotland? There are some wonderful locations around the highlands and people available to take you through them all. As an Outlander fan, you’ve been on one of these or you’re saving up for one.
The fanatics can take things one step further. You’ve got in touch with other fans in Scotland or have family and friends in Scotland who are willing to show you some of the lesser known locations. They take you through some of the most beautiful spots that are slightly off the beaten track to make sure you immerse yourself in the full experience.
Claire and Jamie are your phone wallpapers
How often do you stare at pictures of Jamie and Claire? If you’re a fanatic, it will be every time you pick up your phone. You have a photo of them on your phone’s background and lock screen. And you have different photos of your favorite moment.
Okay, they may not always be of the main characters. After all, Rupert and Angus stole the hearts of fans in Outlander Season 1 and 2. Lord John has quickly made fans swoon and there are plenty who adore the passionate warrior that is Dougal MacKenzie. Whoever your favorite character is, they’re on your phone.
You answer tweets and messages in Outlander GIFs
It’s all about the Outlander GIFs. There are just so many of them. And if you can’t handle GIFs (maybe due to a slower phone or you just don’t like moving videos) there are memes out there of all your favorite scenes and moments.
The Outlander fanatics will answer all correspondence in GIFs. There’s likely a GIF or meme for everything if you look enough.
You listen to every podcast going
Droughtlander is hell, so you need to find a way to get through it. Reading and watching isn’t enough, so you turn to the podcasts. There are just so many but they all give you different insights and thoughts on episodes and the fandom as a whole.
And then during the seasons, you immerse yourself in the podcasts. You need to know what other fans think and what the hell the showrunners were thinking during the filming. Finding out behind the scenes details makes your week complete.
Fan fiction is a must
Whether it’s the written word, Twitter RPGs or videos, you find yourself surrounded by fan fiction. There’s just so much and it helps you fill in the gaps during Droughtlander. You also get to see ideas of what could have happened with particular storylines, like if Jamie ended up in the 1940s.
Once you’ve read or watched, you need to share it with your friends. You drop it in Facebook groups, put it on your own profile or email it to other Outlander fans you know. Now you’re just waiting for The Hillywood Show to do a beautiful parody, like has happened with Supernatural, Doctor Who, and Stranger Things.
You’ve told all your friends about the love story
You just can’t get enough of Outlander that you’ve told all your friends about it. Claire and Jamie are real people in your world and you want a romance just like them. Your friends have found themselves pulled into the world and now they’re watching or reading along with you.
Those that don’t bother are left wondering what you’re talking about now. They know that if they mention anything about love or adventure, you’ll think of the show and books. They may as well get on board!
There’s no man that lives up to your expectations
Jamie Fraser is one of a kind. He’s the King of Men both in the fictional and real worlds. Now you’re stuck with extremely high expectations of what love should be about. You’re not willing to settle for anything less.
Of course, that means there’s “verra” few people who live up to this expectation. When you do find someone, make sure you grasp them tight and never let them go.
You’re ready for time travel yourself
Travelling through the stones is possible. Claire has proven that, right? Well, now you’re getting yourself ready. You want to make sure that you not only know where you are, but you won’t be burned at the stake for being a witch. You want to survive long enough to find your highland warrior.
You’ve got your clothing ready, the hidden pockets with your necessities and a book of all the important moments and dates. You’ve even researched some of the details to make sure you can stop the Battle of Culloden or make it swing the other way and save the highlanders from their fate.
