Matthew B. Roberts has shared there is a theme for Outlander season 4 and it’s beautiful.

Outlander season 4 may be months away, but news about the season is coming out. While the writers are busy with getting ahead on the scripts, the showrunners have shared little pieces of information. One of those pieces is the theme for the season.

Matthew B. Roberts shares that season 4’s theme will be “home.” It’s a beautiful theme, especially considering the journey the Frasers have been through. Considering the way season 3 finished, this will also connect to some of the other characters.

Roberts shares that over the last three seasons, Claire and Jamie haven’t really had a home together. They didn’t get to “plant their feet” or start a family anywhere. When they get to their final destination in season 4, they’ll have somewhere to “call home.”

Of course, the meaning of home differs for people. For many, home is just where the heart is. It’s all about family. For others, it’s about having a place they can call their own. Since Jamie signed the deeds of Lallybroch over to Young Jamie, there isn’t an option to return there and claim it as their own anymore.

The showrunner, who will take more control over the fourth season, also says that the season will explore the many views of “home.” This makes sense since it’s not just the Frasers looking for somewhere to plant their feet. Fergus and Marsali will be starting their lives together and Young Ian is now in the Colonies. At least we can take a guess they will happen based on a Christmas clip from the group on social media (and they’re all dressed in Colonial clothing).

There may even be the exploration of Brianna and Roger. Both Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin will appear in the fourth season, but they won’t necessarily remain in the future. Will the knowledge of time travel and Claire being in the past make them go through the stones?

Of course, then there’s the people at Lallybroch. Even though the Frasers aren’t in Scotland anymore, nobody can forget about Jenny, Ian, and the rest of the Murray brood.
