Some Outlander fans are scratching their heads over the prophecy Margaret saw from the sapphires, but it links to a specific person in 1968.

If you don’t want to be spoiled about the things possibly to come in Outlander, this isn’t going to be a piece for you. I want to get that out of the way right now. There aren’t specifically spoilers for the show, but there are some spoilers from the books and they could give away the potential storyline for Outlander season 4. However, it’s worth noting that the prophecy used in the TV show is different to the one told in “Voyager,” so there are theories too.

Geillis Duncan Abernathy needed to know the prophecy that would be told with the three sapphires. Archibald Campbell deciphered Margaret’s fortune, telling Geillis that it was about the death of a 200-year-old baby that would bring about the next King of Scotland. This is a slight change to the books, but what does this prophecy mean?

The prophecy from Voyager

In the books, the prophecy tells of the last in the Frasers of Lovett line. At the time the prophecy is told, it means Brianna Randall Fraser, although Geillis doesn’t initially realize that there is a Brianna. At that point, Brianna is somewhere in the future and Claire hasn’t been upfront to others that she had a baby and left her 200 years in the future.

However, the book has also introduced other possibilities for the prophecy. Without giving too much away, Brianna is not the last of the Frasers of Lovett line.

The show is a little more specific with the prophecy. There’s only one person it could mean at this time.

Brianna is the 200-year-old baby

Right now, there is only one baby born 200 years in the future. Brianna was conceived in 1746 between Claire and Jamie. Claire then took a trip through the stones and gave birth to the baby in 1948. She is technically 200 years old at the time of her birth, even though she is definitely not a case of Benjamin Button.

There is nobody else that fits this description. If the show sticks with the books, there won’t be anyone else who will fit this description either. The only way for this to happen is for someone else to conceive in the past and give birth after travelling 200 years into the future, whether it’s Claire (unlikely), Brianna, or someone else.

It looks like Geillis is going to learn that Claire had a baby in the future. After all, Geillis did meet Brianna in 1968, just before she travelled through the stones to the past. All it takes is for the smart woman to piece a few things together.
