Father Fogden mentioned the Abandawe caves in Outlander and fans saw a flashback of the ‘vision’ from earlier in the season. What does it mean for the next few episodes?

Outlander viewers who guessed that the Abandawe caves were going to be important had the right thoughts. Something like that is never mentioned without a reason. Whether Claire’s patient in Edinburgh was really psychic or not, she put the thought of the sacred caves in Claire’s head enough for her to remember them when Father Fogden mentioned them.

Many fans now want to know what’s so important about them. There are going to be some spoilers from the book, but this is an attempt to explain them without giving too much of the future storyline away.

The caves and the bones connect

Do you remember the bones that Joe had in 1968? He mentioned that they were from 200 years ago and found in a cave in Jamaica. It would be easy to overlook some of the details, focusing more on the fact that Claire knew somehow that this person had been murdered. It would also be easy to focus on the details of the bones belonging to a Caucasian woman. Many people questioned whether these would be Claire’s bones.

While they’re not Claire’s, they will belong to someone who will likely show up in the next episode of Outlander. The bones and the Abandawe caves do connect. The bones belong to the person holding Young Ian captive in those caves and Claire will be involved with this person’s death.

If the show sticks to the same storyline as the books, the bones belong to a person Claire has already met. They also connect to the mention of the White Witch in Jamie’s storyline.

With just two episodes of Outlander season 3 left, there’s a lot to fit in. It’s unclear just how everything will connect and which storylines will be overlooked for the overall story.
