Outlander ratings: Episode 11 sees mixed results for season 3

The Outlander ratings for season 3, episode 11 have been confirmed and there are mixed results.

Outlander saw season-low ratings for Episode 10, “Heaven & Earth.” While the total number of viewers increased, the key demo rating dropped to a new season-low for Episode 11, “Uncharted.” Could this mean danger for renewal of the series?

There’s no denying that live ratings are important for primetime networks. That isn’t quite the case for cable companies like Starz. While the live ratings are considered, the subscriptions and views through the Starz App are also taken into consideration. That means one or two bad weeks aren’t necessarily the end of the world for a series.

That is especially the case for a show like Outlander. While the key demo may be at a season-low, the Outlander ratings are good when total figures are considered. The ratings saw a 13.61% jump in total viewers, with figures almost back up to where they were with Episode 9, “The Doldrums.” In terms of the demo, there was a 7.14% drop, with the ratings in at 0.26.

Starz will know that while the key demo for most TV is the 18-49 year olds, there are many over the age of 50 turning in for the perils of Claire and Jamie. After all, there are viewers who have been fans of the original books published in the early 1990s.

Further good news is that Sony, Starz, and the showrunners are already in early talks for season 5. Outlander season 4 is already confirmed and in the middle of filming. It will likely premiere in September 2018. The showrunners want to get season 5 confirmed now to avoid a large Droughtlander like the gap between the season 2 finale and season 3 premiere.
