Why was Mamacita so hateful towards Claire in Outlander season 3, episode 11?
There are so many questions about Outlander season 3, episode 11, but one of the biggest surrounds Mamacita.
If you caught the sneak peek for the latest episode before Sunday, you’d have seen an overbearing woman tell Claire that she wasn’t going to untie her. This woman wasn’t impressed that Claire scratched her legs raw and was distrustful after finding the zipper on the corset. That woman was, of course, Mamacita, and the hatred towards Claire continued throughout the episode.
But why was Mamacita so hateful? What had Claire done to deserve such negative feelings?
Mamacita worried about her daughter’s memory
The only reason Mamacita hated Claire was that Mamacita saw Claire as a threat. This threat wasn’t towards her, but towards her daughter’s memory. Mamacita worried that Claire would be Father Fogden’s next love interest and she didn’t want him to move on.

The two were heartbroken with grief. Mamacita had left her own home to follow her daughter and son-in-law. She left everything behind, only to end up losing a child and being protected by her widowed son-in-law. Considering the time period, she would have also worried about what would happen to her should someone steal Fogden’s heart away.
Of course, there was no reason for her to worry, but Mamacita didn’t know that. She just saw Claire as a threat and treated her that way.
Mamacita may have seen Claire wanted to leave
It may not have actually been Claire that she worried about. Throughout the episode, Mamacita realized that Claire wanted to leave the home; she wanted to get to Jamaica. It was Father Fogden who prevented Claire from leaving. Mamacita worried that Fogden had ulterior reasons to keep Claire around.
That wasn’t the case, but it’s easy to understand the fear. Mamacita ended up being one of the most useful assets for Claire escaping.
