Sam Heughan of Outlander wins Best Drama Actor at Gold Derby TV Awards
Outlander can not help stacking up more awards from critics and fans alike. We can add another win for Sam Heughan as Best Drama Actor at the Gold Derby TV Awards. The Scottish sensation Sam Heughan who plays Jamie Fraser can not be stopped and, to be honest, we do not want him too.
This summer has been very busy for the cast of Outlander, for Sam Heughan in particular. Lead actors Sam and Caitriona Balfe have been piling up praises for their portrayal of time-traveling lovers Claire & Jamie on the Starz hit television show, Outlander. Sam was named Best Actor in a drama series at the EWwy Awards, and he recently snagged the title of Radio Times TV Champion.

Sam had stiff competition in the Gold Derby Best Drama Actor category. His fellow nominees included Jon Hamm of Mad Men, Bob Odenkirk of Better Call Saul, Justified’s Timothy Olyphant, Matthew Rhys of The Americans and Kevin Spacey of House of Cards. If the names are familiar to you, it is because Jon Hamm, Bob Odenkirk and Kevin Spacey are nominees for the 2015 Emmy for Best Drama Actor award. Jon Hamm came home with the win.
It begs the question why was Outlander shut out of every Emmy Award category for a nomination? Critic’s and fans agree Outlander is one of the best drama television shows in production. It was a forgone conclusion Outlander, and the cast would be nominated for every major television award in 2015. I believe the lack of Emmy nomination has more to do with the already cable stacked nominations in the drama category and less with the show itself. Drama series on network television are struggling to keep up with the talent cable providers can give viewers.
The Outlander cast is not sitting around licking it wound for the Emmy snub. The cast is currently filming season two in Prague and just looking at the pictures it is going to be spectacular. Outlander has plenty of time to win major television awards.
Tell us in the comments what you think of the Emmy snub? Do you think Sam could have beat out Jon Hamm of Mad Men for the Emmy?
