In some exciting news, Marsali and Fergus are officially back on Outlander season 8. It does hint at a devastating storyline to come, but there is also a sense of hope and happiness for the couple at first.
The last we saw of the couple was during Outlander season 6. Fergus went through his lowest point in life, as he struggled to be what he believed a man should be for his family. He did find his footing, with him and Marsali moving their family from the Ridge to start up a business in Wilmington. Is that where we’ll find the two on Outlander season 8?

Marsali and Fergus are in another city in the Outlander books
The two don’t head to Wilmington at first in the Outlander books. During Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, we learn that Fergus and Marsali headed to Philadelphia instead. This was a little safer for Fergus’s work, but it turns deadly. After all, not everyone is against the British control in the city, and it leads to the printshop being burned down.
The two then move back to Wilmington, although most of their story is told through Claire catching us up and via letters, as Germain moves to the Ridge with Claire and Jamie during Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone. There is a request for Germain to return to his parents at the end of the novel, but we’ll need to wait to see how all that plays out in the 10th book.

Outlander season 8 will likely move the story to Wilmington
While there are clear signs that the devastating fire will take place during Outlander season 8, it’s probably not going to happen in Philadelphia. During Outlander season 6, we learned form Jocasta that the family had settled in Wilmington, and that’s likely where we’ll find them. After all, Claire and Jamie have already focused on returning to the Ridge.
Some of the storylines from the books have changed order, with the fire storyline likely happening with Brianna and Roger back in the 1770s — they weren’t there for it in the books. It doesn’t make sense for everyone to go back to Philadelphia. Had there not been signs that Bree and Roger were going to be there, I could see it happening as Claire and Jamie leave Philadelphia for the Ridge. However, it doesn’t make sense to go back north to come back down to Fraser’s Ridge during the season.
Plus, Fergus and Marsali weren’t even mentioned when Claire and Jamie were in Philadelphia. The whole point of Claire going there in the first place was because Marsali had asked for help. So, we’ll likely see the arc happen back in Wilmington, and maybe we could see everyone back at the Ridge to end the story.
Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
