It’s the day to nurse the hangover. You partied hard to say goodbye to 2025, and now you’re ready to recover. That means sitting on the couch and watching TV shows. Romance is the key to nursing that hangover, right?

The great news is that there’s something for everyone when it comes to romance shows on streaming platforms. We have five suggestions, ranging from multi-season shows to just one-season shows (so far). Now you just have to decide how much time you’re committing after New Year’s Day.

Outlander

We have to start with the epic romance that is Outlander. This is more of a love story than a romance, as it continues on after Claire and Jamie get together. It’s a life story for them, following them through highs and lows, but it all starts with them meeting and falling in love.

Claire is a former World War II nurse on her second honeymoon with her husband Frank Randall in the Scottish Highlands. When she accidentally travels through time, she’s rescued by a band of Highlanders, and after she helps to fix Jamie Fraser’s shoulder from after it’s dislocated, she ends up becoming their “prisoner” or sorts.

Of course, the two fall in love, and they end up on a journey of survival and an attempt to change history. But can history be changed? And what happened to her husband in her own time?

Outlander is available to stream on Netflix and STARZ. The final season will arrive on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.

Heated Rivalry

If you want a one-season show (so far), then you’ll want to turn to the Canadian hockey romance series Heated Rivalry. This is an LGBTQ+ series, focusing on a real look at gay love. The two leads are hockey players, and they’re supposed to be rivals. In fact, that’s the way they view their lives until they start to fall for each other.

Based on the novel of the same name by Rachel Reid, the series brings us highs and lows of Shane and Ilya’s love story. Can they really be together in a world that doesn’t necessarily support their love? Can they really be together when they’re on rival teams?

This is one of those relationships that starts casual but grows to something more. It takes places over time, and it’s a must-watch critical success that has been renewed for a second season.

Heated Rivalry is available to stream on HBO Max.

The Summer I Turned Pretty

What about a series that has come to an end but with a promised wrap-up movie? The Summer I Turned Pretty is that series that you need to check out, and it’s based on the book series by Jenny Han.

The series follows Belly, a teenager who has finally come into her own. Every summer, she and her mom and brother head to Cousins Beach, and this summer is no different. However, there is a slight change. The boy she’s always admired from afar is distance, and his brother is starting to show interest in Belly.

Over the course of three seasons, Belly has to choose between two brothers. What happens if she chooses herself, though? Does that eventually lead to one of the brothers?

The Summer I Turned Pretty is available to stream on Prime Video.

Bridgerton

Like Outlander, you’ll likely want to mix romance and period dramas together. The good news is Netflix has you covered with Bridgerton. The series, which is also based on a book, tells the story of the Bridgerton family, and it all starts with Daphne Bridgerton having to find a husband. Only, the man who wants to ask for her hand in marriage is one she really doesn’t want to be with. What are her options to get out of that?

Each season focuses on the love story of a different Bridgerton sibling. The second season moved onto Anthony Bridgerton and the third season was all about Colin Bridgerton. The fourth season will be about Benedict, who has been a little coy about settling down with women so far, and there have been hints toward a change for Francesca’s story when it comes to hers.

Bridgerton season 4 will arrive in January and February in two parts, so this is the perfect time to start catching up on it. You can watch Bridgerton on Netflix, and don’t overlook the prequel series Queen Charlotte.
