While the Outlander season 8 teaser had already confirmed it, the Outlander season 8 opening credits reaffirm it. The MacKenzies are heading back to the Frasers.
At claireandjamie.com, we’d recently discussed how the teaser trailer made it clear that Brianna and Roger would head through the stones, but not to the 1980s. They’re heading to the 1770s, realizing that it is safer, considering Rob Cameron and his men are still after Jemmy in their own time. The teaser puts them in a devastating storyline that we’re expecting to happen, but that’s not all.
The Outlander season 8 opening credits include a scene that makes it clear another storyline is happening. We briefly discussed it at claireandjamie.com, but now it’s time for us to take a much deeper dive into what it is all about.

Jamie has a book in the Outlander season 8 opening credits
There’s a clip of Jamie walking toward Brianna with a book in his hand. If the teaser wasn’t enough to confirm that Bree and Roger choose to go to Claire and Jamie after the events in 1739, then this should. After all, how would the two be together in a new scene?
The book in Jamie’s hand is important, and it’s one that we’ve seen in the teaser. This is Frank’s book, one that he wrote just before his death. It wasn’t published until after he died, and this meant that Claire had no idea that it existed.
We know that Brianna got the book when she was in the 1970s and into 1980, as she looked at it during Outlander season 7. She likely picked it up as an item to take to the past with her. After all, this trip back would mean that she could stand a chance of protecting her parents.
What’s in the book on Outlander?
In the books, we learn that Frank figured out that a man called James Fraser would die at the Battle of Kings Mountain. This didn’t necessarily mean the James Fraser he was researching after Claire came back to her own time and raised Brianna with him until his death. However, the location of Kings Mountain and the fact that Jamie is heavily involved in the Revolutionary War suggest that it would be.
And yes, in the books, Jamie heads to that battle and he may or may not have died on the battlefield. I’m on the side that he does, but Claire is able to bring him back to life with his hands. That’s just the way I interpret the story, but others could interpret is a slightly different way.
However, what the Outlander season 8 credits suggest is that Jamie talking to Brianna about the book and about the job of historians is coming up. As Jamie reads the book, he’s concerned that he’s going to die. Is it possible that Frank put it in there and was incorrect? Historians wouldn’t purposely put incorrect facts into a non-fiction book, but could it be possible that the source material is wrong? That’s another matter, and we’ll get to see that debate on Outlander season 8, it seems.
Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
