The end is near. We know that Outlander season 8 is the last. As we get ready for the last Droughtlander, we have to question how long it will be.
This last Droughtlander is going to be a difficult one. You see, we want Droughtlander to end as soon as possible, but once it does, that’s it. There are no more episodes to come. So, the fact that Outlander season 8 is unlikely to arrive in 2025 could be good news to some fans out there. It means just a little more time before the series ends for good.
Why Outlander season 8 isn’t likely to arrive in 2025
The eighth and final season of the series has finished filming. Filming wrapped toward the end of 2024, and it could mean that the episodes are ready for the end of 2025. However, this is a slim chance.
The series will now need to go through post-production. We do know that extra shots or any reshoots needed have finished. The show is now into the post-production stage, which includes the ADR work, the CGI work, and elements like that. This takes months to complete. It can take as long as filming alone!
With that in mind, we’re looking at post-production not being completed until around the middle of 2025 at the earliest. That’s just at the earliest. It could take longer, and we know that this is a series worth the wait in terms of quality of production.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is set to arrive in 2025
The good news is that while this last Droughtlander is likely to last until 2026, we won’t be completely without the franchise. Outlander: Blood of My Blood is the prequel series that has already wrapped production. The show is slated to arrive in 2025.
It’s another reason Outlander season 8 likely isn’t going to arrive this year. It doesn’t make sense for STARZ to release two Outlander shows in the same year. STARZ knows that a lot of people subscribe purely for Outlander. To release the two shows in the same year doesn’t make a lot of business sense. STARZ will want to encourage people to stick around for a bit of 2026 as well.
The delay also makes more sense when it comes to the way Netflix releases the show. It gets episodes two years after the finales. We’re likely to see Outlander season 7A arrive on Netflix in August 2025, but we won’t see the second half until January 2027. With a 2026 release for the final season, it means there are two seasons exclusive to STARZ for a little while, along with the prequel series. Plus, it takes longer for season 8 to then head to Netflix, as the wait would be until 2028.
Outlander is available to stream on STARZ.
