The closer we get to the start of Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the more we get to tease what’s to come. Of course, the opening credits is something we’ve come to expect, leading to debates over the theme tune, the clips, and more.
It’s not surprising that Outlander: Blood of My Blood has released the opening credits ahead of the series release. Once again, Bear McCreary has done the composition, and while it’s not The Skye Boat Song, the lyrics beautifully fit the story that we’ve had the tease of in the trailer for the season.

The Outlander: Blood of My Blood theme song is one you can learn the lyrics to
One of the powerful elements of the adapted Skye Boat Song is that it tells the story of Outlander, and the lyrics become those that you can memorize. That’s the case with the Outlander: Blood of My Blood theme tune.
According to Variety, Matt B. Roberts wanted something similar to the Skye Boat Song in the way that you would be able to sing it to yourself. But, he didn’t want the exact same song, and McCreary was brought in early in the process to help with the new theme song.
“We didn’t want to do that again, but we wanted that song you sing to yourself when you’re in the car or the shower.”
It’s a beautiful story that certainly tells the tale of Julia’s trip through the stones. There are also elements of Ellen’s love for Brian within at the same time.
A beautiful combination of the two timelines in the Outlander prequel
We know that much of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will tell the story of two timelines, although there is some time travel at the same time. We’ll get to see the lives of Julia and Henry during World War I, while also seeing the lives of Ellen and Brian in 1715.
The opening credits give us a clear look of that, by slowly progressing from one time to another. The one that stands out for me is when the soldiers from the 1700s are running through the forest and turn into the World War I soldiers. I also adore the way the birds turn into planes in the sky, highlighting the changes to the skyline throughout the centuries.
I’ll admit that getting the opening credits makes me more excited to see what the show will be and how it will work out. I’m still worried at what the time travel element means for Outlander canon, but I’ll be watching with hope that it is just as magical as Outlander.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Friday, Aug. 8 on STARZ.
