There have ben many questions about whether there would be time travel in Outlander: Blood of My Blood, and the trailer for the first season has answered all. It turns out a few theories from the fans may be right. At least, in the TV series!
With less than a month to go before Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres, STARZ has released the first full trailer, and it delivers a lot of twists and exciting moments. The biggest part to talk about has to be the time travel element, which threatens canon when you consider the story Claire knows.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood confirms which of Claire’s parents can time travel
We always knew that either Henry or Julia had to have the time travel gene, as it’s passed on. However, not all children of time travelers can actually travel, and not all of them find out that they can. And despite Diana Gabaldon saying that Henry and Julia didn’t time travel when they had their car accident, it hasn’t stopped fans from speculating. After all, Gabaldon doesn’t want to write a story about Claire’s parents, so it’s not surprising that there is speculation of a world undiscovered.
The Outlander: Blood of My Blood trailer confirms that Claire’s parents can time travel. And yes, it’s BOTH parents!
The trailer starts with Julia being the one to time travel, where she comes across Ellen Fraser and may be the reason for Ellen to follow her heart. Then at the very end of the trailer, we see that Henry has also gone through the stones, and he comes across a young Ned Gowan. How fitting that Ned comes across Henry considering his later connection with Claire.
This could explain why Claire seems to have extra powers compared to other time travelers. We know that she has healing capabilities that get stronger by age, and while the show hasn’t focused on that as much as the books, it was at least mentioned in Outlander season 4.

This time travel change threatens the canon of Outlander
There is a small problem with the time travel, although this could be due to the cutting of the trailer. In Outlander, we learned that Julia and Henry were killed in a car accident when Claire was five. After that, she went to live with her uncle, who tried to send her to a boarding school.
Well, it looks like Henry and Julia may time travel a little sooner. We do see them welcoming Claire into the world, but we don’t get to see them with a younger version of the character. There are flashes of World War I, but it’s not clear if the trip to Scotland is going to be after the War or during it.

It’s likely going to be afterward, and this would allow for canon to be created. However, this then suggests that we won’t get all of Julia and Henry’s love story in the way we were hoping for with how Outlander: Blood of My Blood was teased to us. However, there are clearly some scenes that will take place during World War I, even with Julia, as she works as a secretary.
I will keep an open mind and the time travel element certainly makes this series more intriguing. However, it’s clear that we can’t necessarily trust everything we’ve seen in Outlander. But then, we have never been told the full story by any of the characters.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Friday, Aug. 8 on STARZ.
