When Miss Scarlet season 6 started, it wasted no time in giving us a Detective Fitzroy update. As Evan McCabe is one of the actors not returning to the series, we needed an explanation as to why. The other actor not coming back in Felix Scott, who played Patrick Nash on the series.
Nash appeared during the second season of the series, and he quickly made himself out to be a formidable enemy now and then. However, there was a heart to his story, and that meant we loved seeing Eliza turn to him while he was imprisoned during Miss Scarlet season 5. He isn’t in the sixth season, and the series didn’t explain why in the premiere. That’s because we already know.

Patrick Nash said his goodbye on Miss Scarlet season 5
During Miss Scarlet season 5 episode 4, Nash ended up part of Eliza’s case. He had managed to get out of prison early thanks to someone with money, and that money had a task for him to do. In the end, Nash knew that he couldn’t go through with everything, and as Eliza was working on the same case, he ended up making sure she got the glory.
Nash, meanwhile, was able to get a ticket to Australia, and that’s where he shared he was going. In the synopsis for Miss Scarlet season 6, we did learn that Nash would find a way to cause trouble for Eliza, but it would be from the other side of the globe. That suggests that he made it to Australia after all.
It’s not clear why Felix Scott isn’t returning to Miss Scarlet season 6
One thing that was never made clear was the reason for Scott’s exit from the series. It’s more than likely that this is just where Nash’s story needed to go. There was little that he could do while in prison, and he wanted to continue being a private detective, but he no longer had a license for that. He ended up going to Australia, where he would be able to work.
While there are certainly times that an exit is due to an actor’s schedule conflict, which is why McCabe left, there are also times that it’s purely for the story. While we’ll miss Nash, at least he can still be mentioned and cause problems. We’re excited to see what he’ll do from across the world.
Miss Scarlet airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
