When we saw images of Patrick Nash out of prison for promotion of Miss Scarlet season 5, we were curious about how it would happen. Well, the answers were given in Miss Scarlet season 5, episode 4.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Miss Scarlet season 5, episode 4.

The episode opened with Patrick Nash being released from prison early. There’s overcrowding in the prison, and those with less than a year on their sentence get the opportunity to be released. However, there is something much bigger going on.

The aristocrat who has arranged for Nash’s release wanted him out for another reason. This lord wants to find his brother, who is up to his eyes in gambling debts, and get him on a ship to Australia. He needs Nash’s help with that, and if Nash doesn’t come through, he goes back to prison for much longer.

Eliza ends up on the case with Nash in Miss Scarlet season 5, episode 4

Of course, Eliza ends up on the case as well. Nash turns to her for somewhere to work from when he initially gets out of prison. She has rules, and Nash immediately breaks them all. However, it is to help keep himself out of prison and deal with a corrupt lord who has power to get Nash back behind bars.

It also turns out that the man Nash is looking for is someone Eliza needs to find. The brother is posing as a doctor, and Mrs. Parker, who is the leaseholder of the business, has given him money for his charitable needs. Of course, the man scammed Mrs. Parker (and many others) out of £1,000.

Mrs. Parker is naturally embarrassed to find out that she was scammed. She will be the center of gossip for a long time, but Eliza encourages her to hold her head high. She is always there if Mrs. Parker needs to talk to someone who won’t gossip.

Nash captures the brother and takes him to the lord to get the money and passage to Australia. However, Nash decides that he’s not going to put the brother on the ship. Eliza can hand him over to Scotland Yard, while Nash can get out of London. He can’t work as a private detective in London because his license has been revoked. He can work in Australia, though.

Is this the last we’ve seen of Nash? It certainly seems like it. It’s not going to be that easy for Nash to get back on a ship to London. However, this is Nash, so don’t rule anything out!

Ivy has to make a choice about marriage in Miss Scarlet

Meanwhile, Ivy’s relationship with Mr. Potts comes up. He realizes that she doesn’t love him as much as he loves her. She doesn’t want the house that Mr. Potts thinks he’s found for them to live in, and she keeps dodging the conversation about when to get married. So, he decides to release her from the engagement.

Ivy now realizes that she does want to be with Mr. Potts. So, she surprises him by arranging a meeting with the vicar. They can talk about their wedding date. They’re getting married at the end of the month!

Poor Eliza isn’t getting rid of Mr. Potts, though. Ivy notes that she doesn’t want to leave Eliza on her own, so Mr. Potts has agreed to move in with them for “a year or so.” Eliza isn’t all too happy about that, but she decides to roll with it. This is going to make for an interesting “year or so.”

Miss Scarlet airs on Sundays at 8/7c on PBS.
