When it comes to the final season of a TV show, we expect some major deaths. With a show like Outlander, there are some deaths that have already been written in. And we expect to see them come up in the TV series.

Outlander season 8 is mostly based on Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, but there will be parts of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood added in there. There is also the need to wrap up storylines from the ninth book, as much of it ends on a cliffhanger.

So, with that in mind, we’ve looked at three deaths that we’re preparing to happen in the final season. One of these may surprise you, but don’t worry; the presumed death doesn’t stick.

Henri-Christian

As we’ve previously noted at claireandjamie.com, there are hints from the Outlander season 8 teaser that there will be one major death happening. This one comes from Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, but with the way the storylines have been adapted, it’s potentially going to include Roger and Brianna in the TV series.

There’s a huge fire at the print shop, and Germain and Henri-Christian make it to the roof. Sadly, when Henri-Christian jumps into the waiting arms of men at the bottom, they all miss him, and he falls to his death. It’s absolutely heartbreaking, and it leads to a lot of survivor’s guilt for Germain. It’s not a story I’m looking forward to but is one I’m preparing myself for.

Benjamin Grey (sort of)

Throughout Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, William heads on a journey to find his cousin, Benjamin, and learn what has happened to him. In the end, he finds a body in a grave with his name, leading to many people believing that he has been killed. However, it turns out that he is alive and that he has switched sides from the British to the Americans.

This is a bigger story of Hal Grey, but it also connects to Lord John Grey. As we know, based on the leaked images from last year, Lord John Grey is likely to be captured, and there’s a good chance that the Benjamin story needs to be written in to build up to it. There isn’t a lot of time to cover all of this, though, so I doubt it will take up too much time.

Jamie Fraser (but don’t worry!)

There is one major “death” that happens in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, and it’s sure to come up on Outlander season 8. That is the death of Jamie Fraser.

And I know what you’re all going to say. “Jamie doesn’t die.” Well, he sort of does. I guess it all depends on how to interpret the story, but to me, he dies. It’s only because Claire has managed to bring him back with the blue light that he’s able to live. If she hadn’t been there and if she hadn’t come into her powers, he wouldn’t have made it through.

So, I do expect this to happen in some sort of way. The issue is that Claire’s powers haven’t been touched on at all in the series since Outlander season 4, and her hair isn’t turning fully white before the season ends, as we previously looked into at claireandjamie.com. This could change things enough that Jamie doesn’t really die and Claire saves him through regular means as she has done in the past. There will likely be the fear of his death due to Frank’s book about a battle that he is in.

Outlander season 8 will premiere on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
