There were certainly some major moments that pushed the Outlander: Blood of My Blood forward in the penultimate episode of the season. It’s time to break them down and pick out the top moments.
“Braemar” brought us the start of the Jacobite Rebellion. Clans were divided, but many of them voted in favor of the rebellion to happen, but we know how it is all set to play out. Meanwhile, Ellen had to make a choice to protect the love of her life, and it’s not the choice we wanted to see happen.
There was something good that happened, though. Henry and Julia got to spend some time together, and that meant there is hope that the to will be able to escape 1715 together. Go where, though? Well, that’s an interesting question, but one we get answered in the latest episode.
For now, we break down the top moments from Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 9.

Brian going to Henry to explain Julia’s situation
It was always going to be hard for Henry to figure out what was going on. He knew William was his, but Simon Fraser spends the episode acting like he is the father of Julia’s baby. Well, rather than end up too confused, Brian decides to speak with Henry, and it’s an interaction that we’ve needed for a while.
I love that Brian does this, as it’s a bit of a return of the favor from Julia going to see Ellen. At the same time, it’s the only way to get it through to Henry, as Brian knows exactly what Julia has had to do, and why. Plus, as we've said at ClaireandJamie.com already, it makes sense that Henry would be able to forgive Julia so easily.
Ned helping to get a message to Julia in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
Then we continue to see the friendship between Henry and Ned happening, and I wish that we could have more of this. Ned knows that it’s a risk to get Henry away from the Grants, but he will do what he can. However, there is something that he can do first.

That’s to get a message to Julia. Of course, Ned is able to pass on a quick note, and knowing that Julia can read it helps the matter be quick so that neither of them are seen by the wrong person. It’s a huge risk for Ned, though, but this is a man of honor.

Simon feeling threatened and small
All the way up to this point, Simon Fraser has thought that he is winning. Ellen went through a test of her virtue, and Simon was sure that that would mean the Grants would break from the MacKenzies. Well, it didn’t happen, and instead, Simon was made to feel small on more than one occasion.
I love seeing how he reacts when his ego is burned. This is a man who needs to be the center of attention, and he needs everything to go his way. He’s such a toddler when it doesn’t, and I did have to feel for Brian when Simon took all the anger out on him.
Ellen making the deal in Outlander: Blood of My Blood
We get to see Ellen MacKenzie make a choice that is for the love of her life. It’s not a choice any of us wanted to see her make, but she had to at the time, as we’ve mentioned at ClaireandJamie.com. Brian’s life was on the line.
Well, I’m sure this is all going to change in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale, but for now, can we just comment on the superb acting by Harriet Slater? You could tell in her eyes that she didn’t want to do this, and I think it’s something for Brian to hold onto. He just needs to survive the assassins first.

The fall of the ball from the flag
If there was ever an omen of how the First Jacobite Rebellion is going to go, it’s the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1, episode 9. As the Earl of Mar announces that they will fight for a Stuart King on the throne, the ball drops to the floor. All the cheering stops, as it’s clear what this means to all of them.
It’s such a great way to show the uncertainty of this rebellion. They all want desperately to have a Catholic monarch, but there is so much against them.
