Not all romantic moments have happy endings. That’s certainly the case for this most romantic moment on Outlander. It’s all about Murtagh’s declaration of love to Jocasta.
While we want all romantic moments to end with happiness, not all can. That’s the case for the Outlander Season 5, Episode 6 moment that makes it on our list of most romantic moments so far.
It’s all about Murtagh’s declaration of love for Jocasta. To see where it landed on the list and the other 24 moments, you can check out our full piece. For now, let’s look at why this moment belongs on our list.
Murtagh isn’t the type of guy we view as romantic. He’s loyal and he has a lot of heart, but we’ve never really seen him in a romantic setting. Sure, we know that he loved Ellen and gave her those tusk bangles, but we haven’t seen it happen. It’s hard to imagine our rugged Regulator leader being the romantic type.
And yet, he proved he is during his declaration of love to Jocasta. On the eve of her wedding, he snuck in to see her. He made it clear that he made a mistake not wanting to step in the way of her happiness because really, marrying Duncan Innes isn’t going to make her happy. He made a last attempt to get the love of his life back.
Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. As much as Jocasta and Murtagh love each other, their love is doomed. The more Murtagh fights for something he believes in, the more Jocasta knows there’s no hope. She can’t go through the loss of loved ones again. She went through it enough after Culloden.
But ending on a sad note doesn’t stop Murtagh’s declaration of love being romantic. He tried one last time to win the heart of the woman he loves. He tried to get her to run away with him. In the end, he had to admit that it was over.
