5 best lines from Outlander Season 5, Episode 2
Outlander Season 5, Episode 2 brought some major moments for the future of the story. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.
There were some excellent moments throughout Outlander Season 5, Episode 2, pushing the show forward and bringing us the dangers of living in the 18th century. It’s no wonder Roger wants to go back to his own time!
With excellent moments also came excellent lines. Here are my five favorite lines from “Between Two Fires.”
I can only hope one day to be granted a parcel of land that’s half as prosperous as yours. Perhaps when we catch Fitzgibbons and see him hanged.
This line stood out from the sneak peek that we got. It’s easy to hate Lieutenant Hamilton Knox purely because he’s a Redcoat after Murtagh, but there’s an innocence to him. All he wants is success in his career and land that comes with it. There was this excited look that I could imagine one of my daughters having, thinking that they just needed to do one thing to get something they were hoping for.
It gives us an insight into Knox. We’re reminded that he’s following orders. Whether he believes in them or not, he’s seeing the damage that the Regulators threaten to do (and later sees the damage they are willing to do). He has been given orders and promises of fortune in the future, and he wants to set up a place to live in this New World.
It’s bad enough I’m fighting the disease But I’m also fighting the cure.
Next up is a line from Claire. It’s one that has stood out from the promos and should have been a clue that Claire is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her family safe. Not only is she willing to make penicillin 150+ years early, but she’s also willing to do autopsies to learn and then teach Marsali.
But this line stands out for other reasons. She can’t just fight against a disease. The people are using cures that are killing them and they don’t even realize it. Everything is stacked against Claire.
I only wish your wife was with you. We could surely employ a surgeon of her skill.
It’s not always the lines from main characters that stand out. While I love moments with Bree and Roger and I certainly loved many of the Claire and Jamie momets, this line from the judge stands out. He praises Claire Fraser for her skills.
What stands out is that he doesn’t just call her a healer. He calls her a surgeon, and he trusts her to be able to help. If only the women at the Ridge could hear a man praise Claire. Maybe they’d listen to her warnings without her having to resort to a pseudonym.
And I believe in mine, preserving as many lives as possible.
The next line does come from Jamie. He is walking between the two fires, but he is also trying to do what’s best for everyone. He needs to keep his family safe, but that doesn’t mean he wants to risk the life of the Regulators.
He’s angry at the actions of the Regulators and is later shocked to find out that Murtagh led them in the raid on Hillsborough. All he wants is to find a peaceful way of dealing with things so he’s not trying to protect both sides. It’s the honorable side of Jamie that we saw during the lead-up to Culloden, too.
He’s walking between two fires.
Murtagh makes it clear that he’s not going to fight against his godson. He understands why Jamie is on the side that he is on. However, this line is also important because it speaks of Murtagh, too. The Regulators know that Murtagh is stuck in the middle, although he is a man of his word and he will continue to fight for what he believes in.
However, it’s clear that everything is going to come to a head soon. Murtagh may not make it out of the story alive.
