Claire Fraser wants to keep the people of the Ridge safe. How will she be able to do that on Outlander Season 5? Let’s get into the book spoilers.

Now that the festivities at the Ridge are over, it’s time to focus on problems at hand. One of those problems is the wellness of the people at the Ridge. Something Outlander Season 5, Episode 2 is going to bring in is that Claire can’t always save them all, especially without modern medicine.

We know that she’s going to take time to develop penicillin in her surgery, but that’s not all. He needs to just get some general medical advice out to the people of the Ridge. How could she possibly do that?

I’m going to get into the book spoilers in this post. If you’ve read “The Fiery Cross,” you know exactly what Claire does to get some information out. Those who haven’t read the books but want to know the details, you’ll want to read on. If you don’t want spoilers, I recommend checking out this breaking down the synopsis for Outlander Season 5, Episode 2.

How will Claire help the people of the Ridge?

Naturally, the people at the Ridge will go to Claire for help but they won’t necessarily listen to all her advice. That’s especially the case when it comes to advice that contradicts the male doctors. The people of the 18th century are used to men having the knowledge. It’s not until the 20th century that women are even allowed to practice medicine to become doctors and surgeons!

People of the Ridge know that Claire is a fine healer, but she’s not a doctor. She’s not been to school—well, they don’t think she has. And so, Claire needs to do something that gets her knowledge out without being a woman.

She decides to write under a pseudonym. Let’s be honest; she’s not going to be the first woman of the time that does this. Many authors of the past wrote under male names to get their stories out. Many acknowledged that people would listen to them more or read their words because they believed they were written by men.

In the novels, Claire uses the pseudonym of Dr. Rawlings. There is a bigger story linked to Rawlings and River Run, but all you need to know right now is that Rawlings is the name on the medical chest that Jamie gifted Claire in the Outlander Season 4 premiere. This is the inspiration for the name.

Claire does only intend to help the people of the Ridge. Some of her writings end up published accidentally, which leads to the name becoming more famous than she would like.

Will Dr. Rawlings be included in Outlander Season 5?

What we don’t know yet is whether the pseudonym will show up in Season 5. It’s highly likely that the show will keep the storyline in. After all, this is Claire Fraser. We know that all she’s ever wanted is to make sure the people get the best quality of care.

The problem is she’s working against men who think they know better; men who are carrying out some extremely dangerous practices. We know that medicine in the past was questionable. Mercury pills were used to treat illnesses, lead was used in makeup. It’s no wonder that Claire wants to take extra steps to protect her patients.
