STARZ and Comcast reach deal: What does this mean for Outlander?
STARZ and Comcast have managed to reach a deal ahead of the current contract running out. What does this mean for Outlander fans with Xfinity?
The deadlock between STARZ and Comcast has come to an end. Just days before the current contract runs out, the two companies have managed to find a way to negotiate new terms. What exactly does this mean for Outlander fans?
It’s great news for Sassenachs with Xfinity. It should mean there is absolutely no change to your current setup. There’s no need to lose the channel with your current subscription.

There is also some great news for the future. The deal means changes between Lionsgate and NBCUniversal content. The STARZ app in the U.S. (and STARZPLAY around the world) will get NBCUniversal content directly.
Lionsgate movies and TV shows will also head to NBCUniversal’s upcoming Peacock streaming service. This likely won’t mean Outlander will head there as it’s a Sony and STARZ production, but any Lionsgate originals, which would include the current shows The Rook and Sweetbitter. Lionsgate movies have been heading to Amazon Prime Video, but that deal comes to an end at 2019, allowing for a new deal with NBCUniversal in 2020.
For those who watch Outlander live on the STARZ channel, you’ll be able to stream as soon as the premiere is released. There’s no need to look for alternative ways to view your favorite TV show.
The two companies coming to a deal isn’t all that surprising. It was bound to happen eventually, but we were understandably concerned that it wouldn’t happen in time. It’s not the first time there’s been a threat of a carriage blackout. However, STARZ did arguably hold the power. According to Deadline, half of subscribers are now directly through the app so why should it make an expensive deal with a carrier when it could be cheaper for viewers to go for apps and stream at will?
Regardless, the deal has been made. There should be no changes to your current plan.
