Outlander’s Colin McFarlane voices Father Christmas in this Barbour ad
You’ve heard him as Ulysses. You’ve heard him speak naturally or work on The Commuter and Batman. Now it’s time to hear Colin McFarlane as Father Christmas.
Colin McFarlane has done a lot of voicework over the years. With his dulcet tones, that’s not all too surprising. His voice was made for voicework. And while as an Outlander fan, you’ve heard him as Ulysses, it’s now time to hear him as Father Christmas.
You won’t recognize the voice at first. Well, the majority of you won’t. It’s why the Barbour Christmas commercial went unnoticed in the Outlander community at first. McFarlane tweeted out the commercial to share that it really is his voice as Father Christmas.

The commercial is more than just a way to promote the current Barbour collection. It’s a way to celebrate 125 years of excellent quality clothes. Father Briggs tells the story of the coat he has worn throughout the years, one that remains his trusty companion (and I love that it’s the traditional green of Father Christmas before he was made red for other commercial reasons, although there is the red suit underneath).
It’s a beautiful ad, watching Father Christmas trip over rugs, get tangled in phone wires, and be his usual clumsy self. Those who have read the Raymond Briggs books will know exactly what to expect throughout the years of watching Father Christmas leave presents for families around the world.
What’s even better is that Sam Heughan is the face of Barbour. It only seems fitting that Colin McFarlane is the voice of Barbour, right?
