Filming on the final block is officially underway. It’s now a countdown to the finishing line for Outlander Season 5. Are you ready?
It’s official! Outlander Season 5 filming is near the end. The cast and crew have started work on the final block of episodes.
Sophie Skelton shared the update on Instagram. Sadly, she couldn’t share anything of what is going on in the scenes, but she did give us a beautiful look at a rainbow overhead. It’s something, right?

Okay, so it’s nothing about the series. All that we can take from the social media post is that filming is close to the end. The final block will consist of the last two episodes of the season, which includes the episode that Diana Gabaldon has written. This is some exciting stuff.
With the last two episodes, we may get to hear about some tension in the scenes—not among the actors but among the characters. The episodes will include the buildup to the Revolutionary War that nobody can (or will likely want to) stop happening. All everyone can do is get ready for the battles that are to come, and the dangers those battles bring with them.
One of the big questions is whether the season will end with a major cliffhanger, similarly to the fourth season finale. It’s certainly possible. The showrunners know they have a sixth season, so ending with a cliffhanger wouldn’t be too annoying and worrisome for fans (even those who haven’t read the books). The answers will come.

New York Comic-Con 2019 didn’t give us much to go on for the fifth season. The cast was clearly under orders not to spoil anything, and I get that. Not everyone has read the books and the show won’t necessarily stick to every little thing that’s in the books. After all, we have Murtagh still alive and Lord John Grey has a physical role in the season, which he doesn’t have in Outlander Book 5.
It won’t be long now. The last filming block will likely take about a month and then there will be plenty of time to edit before the season premieres next year.
What do you hope to see in the final two episodes of Outlander Season 5? What roles do you think Murtagh and Lord John Grey will play? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
Outlander Season 5 premieres on Feb. 16 on STARZ.
