Outlander stars share their first memories of the series

Outlander stars, Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, shared their early memories of the series to mark five years since the series premiere aired.

Can you believe that it’s been five years since Outlander first aired on TV? Yes, it’s been much longer for the books, but five years ago, we got to see Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan become their characters Claire and Jamie.

Whether you’ve been with the show from the very beginning or you only just joined after finding the series on Netflix in May, you’ll want to celebrate the five-year mark. Our main stars also celebrated, thinking back to their early memories.

For Balfe, it was telling the cast and crew that about 1.8 million people had tuned in through the platform on the first day. This just gives you an idea of the differences between the live ratings (which were about 0.7 million for that first day) and the number of viewers that use the STARZ app!

Heughan talked about his first memory of working with Balfe. The two were in a barn and he looked up at this woman who would become his “telly wife” for the next five or six years—and we’re hoping for many more years.

It’s an amazing achievement. Many shows now, even those that are critically acclaimed, aren’t even making it past the first three or four seasons. Balfe and Heughan have been working on the same show for more than five years (they were both cast in roles the year earlier) and have at least another year as they’ll move onto filming Season 6 after finishing Season 5.

There is certainly more material. We just have to look at Diana Gabaldon’s books for that. There’s hope for the future.

The look back at the series is taken on the set of filming Season 5. I’ll admit and say Claire looks like she’s bringing a bit of 1940s wartime fashion to the 18th century, and I totally dig it.
