Outlander Season 5 filming is right on schedule!
Outlander Season 5 filming hasn’t been delayed like the rumors suggest. Showrunner Matt B. Roberts saying filming is right on schedule.
There have been plenty of rumors and statements that Outlander Season 5 filming has been delayed. However, it turns out, like we suspected, that filming is right on schedule.
According to showrunner Matt B. Roberts, it doesn’t sound like the “early 2020” premiere date is all that surprising. And honestly, I don’t think anyone who has kept up to date with the news and avoided the rumors of delays expected anything earlier than 2020. Sure, we wanted earlier but that doesn’t mean we were going to get earlier.

Despite the rumors, the filming wasn’t delayed. During summer 2018, Caitriona Balfe had mentioned that they would get a seven-month break from working on Outlander. It was giving the cast time to work on other projects while the crew and writers got to work on sets, writing, and more. The earliest the show was going to return to production was February 2019.
Sure, it may have seemed like there was a filming delay from there, and I previously wrote delay more due to keeping titles concise! The show didn’t start filming until April 2019, but there’s a lot of production work to do before filming. The cast gets the scripts, they get fitted for other costumes, and so much more.

Roberts makes it clear that there was never a delay. Premiering in “early 2020” is right on time for the show according to this tweet. And I think I’m going to listen to him and the rest of the show’s cast and crew than some of the speculative rumors being spread.
