Outlander Season 5 filming took to the streets of Paisley on July 14. Caitriona Balfe was spotted on the set, but when will these scenes air?

Outlander fans flocked to Paisley’s streets to catch a glimpse of the filming of Season 5. All eyes were on why the show had chosen this particular area and who would be involved. Caitriona Balfe was the one involved, but where will the filming fit into the series?

Based on the timing of the filming, it’s likely that we’re somewhere around the middle of the season. The show films in blocks, so doesn’t necessarily film in scene or episode order but it’s not often that episodes from later in the season are lumped with later ones. Block one is usually the first few episodes and the last block is usually the last few episodes, for example.

More from Caitriona Balfe

We’re going to be getting into some spoilers from the Outlander Season 5 filming right now. If you don’t want to know anything at all, I’d go back to the Claire and Jamie homepage and look for another article that suits you. We regularly share teases and less spoilery content about the filming.

Something I’ve spotted in regards to the filming is the wig Balfe is wearing. She’s in the 1968-style wig, which suggests that the show is heading back to the 20th century.

Many fans have been quick to point out that “The Fiery Cross” is only set in the 18th century. In fact, it’s one of three books only set in the 18th century. (“Written in My Own Heart’s Blood” does see a different time, but it’s still the 18th century). However, that doesn’t mean we can’t have some of the 20th century thrown in.

It’s entirely possible that the show is adding a flashback or two. This would be a way to bring Tobias Menzies back into the show again. After all, Menzies did film for Season 4 despite Frank not being in the series.

My speculation purely based on the fact that I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently is that it’s linked to Frank’s letter. Is it possible that Claire did find the headstone for Jamie, almost confirming in her mind that Jamie was dead until she found proof otherwise? Or could this be a flashback of Claire finding Black Jack Randall’s grave?

It makes sense that it would be Claire in a cemetery. The filming was around one of the centuries-old churches in Paisley.

However, something working against that theory is Caitriona Balfe was spotted getting into a car with the steering wheel on the left (the U.S. side). So, this would suggest this scene is set in Boston and likely after Frank’s funeral — or maybe even during — and could be linked to Claire’s continued feelings for Frank. After all, just because they weren’t in love doesn’t mean they didn’t love each other in some way.

Next. 4 moments from Drums of Autumn that could still make it to Outlander Season 5. dark
