Tobias Menzies among initial cast for The Hunt

Almeida Theatre is bringing The Hunt and Outlander’s Tobias Menzies has been named in the initial casting.

If you’re in or around London this summer, you’ll want to grab tickets for The Hunt at Almeida Theatre. Outlander‘s Tobias Menzies is in the initial casting and you’ll get a chance to see him on stage.

The Hunt is based on the 2012 movie of the same name — the Danish name was Jagten — starring Mads Mikkelson in the lead role. It’s a dark movie that involves accusations of sexual assault and the effects on someone’s life. Lucas is a preschool teacher, who is well-liked by the children and the staff. However, when he regrets a kiss five-year-old Klara, daughter of his best friend, Theo, gives him, things take a turn.

Klara, who remembers pornographic material her brother shows her, shares how she had seen an erect penis. The preschool director immediately believes Lucas has sexually abused Klara, despite her evidence being contradictory. This naturally develops further and we see the effects it has on Lucas, his relationships, and his job.

The adaptation has been developed by David Farr and will be directed by the Almeida Theatre Artistic Director, Rupert Goold. Menzies plays Lucas in the on-stage adaptation, with Howard Ward playing Per/Pastor, Michele Austin as Hilde, and Danny Kirrane as Gunner.

The initial cast will be involved from Jun. 17 in preview nights, which will run until Jun. 25. The production will continue until Aug. 3. Tickets for select members have already opened, but General Sale opens on Mar. 21. You can get your tickets at the Almeida Theatre website.
