4. Jamie’s unwillingness to give up

As Jamie and Taran wait to be hanged, Jamie looks at his options to escape. He doesn’t want to die at the noose, even though he knows fighting his way out isn’t actually an option. But this isn’t what I mean about Jamie’s unwillingness.

Even in the cell, chained to the wall, he doesn’t give up the fight. He tries to take the chain out, despite knowing that it isn’t going to happen. The only time he gives up completely is when Claire is the one in danger. He gives himself over to save her life, sacrificing himself for the woman he loves.

It’s an honorable thing to do, but shows the spirit he has inside of him. Don’t tell Jamie that he can’t do something, because he will attempt to prove otherwise.

3. Ellen certainly had plenty of admirers

During the previous episode, we learn that Murtagh was the one to give the tusks. There’s an absolutely beautiful story behind them. In “Wentworth,” we get the tale of the pearls — the admirer they came from.

Ellen MacKenzie certainly had plenty of admirers. It’s often said that she was beautiful but it’s clear that men would have liked to be with her. Brian Fraser was a lucky man and he likely knew it for all his life.

I do always have to laugh how Claire happens to use the pearls to pay for help from the farmer. Of all the people Claire comes across!
