Roger certainly had some testing moments throughout Outlander Season 4 and we got to see Richard Rankin deliver some standout performances. What was the best Roger moment?

Richard Rankin had a chance to deliver some outstanding performances throughout Outlander Season 4. Like with Sam Heughan, a lot of emotion came from facial experiences. No words necessary. So what was the #1 moment for Roger throughout the series?

When I say this is the best moment, I don’t mean it was a good one. The moment stood out because of character development, acting, and just everything coming together. There’s only one episode for me that stands out perfectly: “Providence.”

It was one of my all-time favorite episodes of Outlander, not just the fourth season. Roger had the chance to look back over the events that had happened, showing that despite wanting to put himself first, he just couldn’t.

Which was the #1 moment, though? It has to be at the end of the episode. Just before he throws the gunpowder (or whisky, whatever that was supposed to be), he has the chance to escape. He wants to put himself first and he walks along the path talking to himself. Going back could be suicide but he can’t just let Father Alexandre suffer.

So, Roger decides to, once again, put someone else before himself. This is a running theme for Roger. He’d already decided to remain in the past when he had the chance to go through the stones for Brianna. Roger had been to hell and back all for love — for someone other than himself. After this, he even chooses to stay in the past despite getting the chance to walk away forever.

Yet, this moment makes it clear that he would never be able to put himself first. He needs to do right by others and protect them. We get this huge moment for him and it’s one of the first I think of when it comes to the whole of Outlander Season 4.
