Outlander Season 5 filming is officially beginning. Just as Caitriona Balfe shared last week, this week is time for the cast to get back together. And Lauren Lyle has shared the proof.

The actress, who plays Marsali on the series, shared an Instagram Stories of her rocking up to the production office on Feb. 22. It’s a little later in the week than we’d like but suggests that filming will begin on Monday, allowing the Friday to be the table read.

Cesar Domboy previously shared that filming would begin in February. Last year, Balfe had also shared that the cast were getting seven months off. There were worries that filming wouldn’t begin until March, so it’s good to see that the cast is back together on set.

What does this mean for the release date? Well, I still don’t think we should expect it before the end of the year. With it being a shorter season by one episode, it’s possible that two weeks of filming could be saved but that won’t do much for the date it will premiere. I have a feeling that January 2020 is going to be the earliest date we get and we may have to wait until March 2020.

Filming for Season 4 started in September 2017 and we didn’t get the Season 4 premiere until November 2018. With that in mind, filming starting now could push the release date back. The great news is with already having a sixth season renewal, we should see a shorter Droughtlander between the fifth and sixth seasons since production can move straight on.
