2. Wanting the Cherokee on side

At the very start of the episode, Young Ian shows the Cherokee the necklace he got from the Mohawk to find out which tribe it is. They get the answers but it does mean a two-month ride north. Naturally, this makes Jamie uneasy.

There’s plenty of danger on the road north. They could run into other tribes or face off against their own. Then there’s the chance of getting lost or issues when they reach the Mohawk village. Jamie shows his smarts, requesting that the Cherokee head north with them.

Safety in numbers, right? Well, the Cherokee men aren’t interested in moving north.

Jamie tries his hardest to encourage the Cherokee to go with them. He doesn’t really want to head off in search for Roger without some sort of backup. I love that we get to see this side of him. He’s worried but he’s also cautious.

It leads to the conversation about Brianna and Roger. They have to live with uncertainty and fear — the same uncertainty and fear that he and Claire have lived with before. It’s nothing he wants them to go through and he wants to make it easier on them by having the Cherokee with him.
