The Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 ratings took a dip, bringing the demo to an all-season low. Could this have been expected considering the holiday season?

Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 ratings are in and things weren’t great. Both the total audience and demo ratings took a drip, with the demo dropping to an all-time low. This isn’t necessarily a dangerous sign though and is more a sign of the holiday season.

It was a bold move for STARZ to air new episodes during the Christmas months, especially with actual episodes that are airing. Last Sunday’s was a major turning point for the storyline with the handfasting and then the rape scenes, along with it being the 50th episode of the series. This Sunday coming up is when Brianna reunites with Claire and meets Jamie.

I expected STARZ to take two weeks off, but clearly, the subscription viewers are good otherwise STARZ wouldn’t have risked things. So, the dip in the live ratings was possibly expected. But were they expected to be so low?

The total audience figures dipped back below the million, with an 18.71% drop, according to TV Series Finale. It’s the key demo that is the bigger worry. It dipped to a season-low at 0.12, seeing a 36.84% drop.

We’ll have to see if it was the episode or the timing this week. Out of the two holiday episodes, last Sunday was going to see the biggest dip since it was the night before Christmas Eve. People will have been away visiting family. Plus, this coming episode is the big reunion/meeting.
