Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 is a milestone episode. What does this mean for the future?

Outlander Season 4, Episode 8 is a special milestone for the series and not just because Claire, Jamie, Brianna, and Roger are all in North Carolina and have the chance of running into each other. It’s the 50th episode of the series.

Yes, 50! Claire and Jamie have made it to Episode 50.

For those who are in fandoms like the Grey’s Anatomy one, NCIS, or even the SPN Family, the 50th episode isn’t a huge achievement. These shows are celebrating 300th and 350th episodes. But it is a major achievement for a show like Outlander.

Let’s start with the fact that the series itself was a huge risk for STARZ. They took a punt on a show based on a novel series about a woman who time traveled. She was already from a time period in the past and was going to another point in the past. Just for the set and costumes, the budget would have been high.

For a cable network, a high-budget show is major. It shows that the network already had high hopes. Sure, the book series was popular but there’s never any guarantee that the readers will give the show a chance. And then the readers had to stick with the show moving forward while pulling in fans who hadn’t read the books.

Getting a show off the ground isn’t easy, which brings us to another reason 50 episodes is a huge achievement. There are plenty of shows canceled after one or two seasons. The BraveTimeless, and Life Sentence are all examples of shows across various primetime networks that haven’t made it so far.

When you consider that Outlander‘s seasons are much shorter than primetime dramas, it’s easy to see that reaching Episode 50 is a huge achievement. While the first season had 16 episodes, the last two and the current have been 13 episodes long.

Seasons 5 and 6 will be 12 episodes each, so it’s going to take a while to reach the milestone 100th episode. That will happen around Season 8 if STARZ continues to renew the show.

“Wilmington” looks to be an excellent episode to mark the 50 milestone. Everyone is in one time period and location. We get to see Marsali and Fergus back and meet their baby, while Roger and Brianna reunite. It’s also going to be a big episode for Brianna, as she meets Stephen Bonnet.
