Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 ratings back over the million
The total audience Live + Same Day ratings for Outlander Season 4, Episode 6 went back over the million. Why do we keep looking at ratings that probably don’t matter much?
Each week, I find myself checking the Live + Same Day ratings for Outlander. I got mixed feelings when looking at Season 4, Episode 6. The total audience figures jumped back over the million, delivering the second-best ratings of the season so far. However, the key demo figures were very slightly down.
According to TV Series Finale, the demo ratings were down by 0.01, taking us to 0.16. However, the total demo figures jumped up by 8.56% to 1.040 million. The premiere delivered the highest of the season at 1.082 with the rest of the ratings being below the million, so while the demo slipped very slightly, the total audience is good.

But we know deep down that the live ratings don’t mean too much for STARZ. It’s just a boost of confidence when we see these Live + Same Day rating.
The benefit of STARZ is that it’s a cable network that’s subscription based. The company is going to focus more on the number of subscribers watching the series and the amount of time they watch the episode throughout the week. While live ratings are a boost, STARZ doesn’t rely on advertisers so it’s not the biggest piece of the pie when it comes to renewing.
Plus, we already have the fifth and sixth seasons confirmed. There’s no need to worry about the future of the show for another couple of years.
So, why do we look at the Live + Same Day ratings? Why do I get excited to see the figures jump up? Well, for me, it’s linked to pride for the series. I love knowing that there are people, like me, who watch it religiously every week. It’s an ego boost in a way and I’m never going to stop looking at the ratings.
Looking at them this week has reminded me that the ratings are still going up, especially in terms of the total audience. I do think making it clear that Lord John Grey would return helped to boost the ratings. Fans wanted to see how it would play out.
I’m interested in the ratings for next week. It looks like there is no Claire and Jamie story (more to come on the trailer breakdown tomorrow), so I’m intrigued at how many people aren’t going to watch but how many others will tune in especially to see it.
