The #ATOW is something many Sassenachs look forward to. Why doesn’t it happen every week after Outlander? There’s one excellent reason for it.

Season 4’s return means the return of #ATOW. This is “Ask the Outlander Writers,” a Q&A on Twitter that gives us more depth into some of the decisions in the episodes. You’ll notice that they don’t happen every week.

There wasn’t a session after “Do No Harm” or one this week. So, why is that the case when we got one weekly during the third season? There’s one reason and it’s one that all Sassenachs should be able to appreciate and love.

It’s not that the writers don’t want to answer your questions. Nor is it that the writers want to avoid some of the difficult questions you may have. It’s all about Outlander Season 5.

The writers are currently hard at work writing the fifth season of the series. This is work that has been ongoing since the summer and will remain a process for the foreseeable. Filming starts sometime early in the New Year, so the writers will need to get through as many episodes as possible.

The show has to be a top priority for the writers. That means they can’t take as much time to answer fan questions. However, there are often other Twitter Q&As happening to fill in the gap.

During the “Do No Harm” week, Maria Doyle Kennedy took to Twitter to answer questions about Aunt Jocasta. Last week, Sophie Skelton answered some questions about Brianna during “The False Bride.”

There hasn’t been a Twitter Q&A at all this week. However, we can look forward to a new week starting Sunday and a new episode. Plus, the writers putting their focus on the fifth season is a good thing. This is a large book to adapt and could have some of the biggest and most intricate storylines going.
