No break for Outlander Season 4 over Christmas and New Year
There’s some excellent news Sassenachs. Outlander Season 4 isn’t taking a winter break like many other shows.
Outlander Season 4 won’t take a winter break. Unlike many other shows across various networks, every Sunday throughout December will see a new episode of the time-traveling love story. It’s exciting news but it does mean one downside: a longer Droughtlander between the seasons.
STARZ has just shared its listings for December, showing everything that is coming to and leaving the service. My first thought was to see when Outlander would take a winter break and check if it mentioned how long that break would be. Fancy my surprise to learn that Dec. 23 and 30 would see new episodes of the season.

It’s excellent news for those of us who worried about handling Christmas and New Year without our favorite couple. But it does bring bad news. There’s going to be a longer Droughtlander between the seasons.
Outlander Season 5 isn’t going to start filming until the New Year, sometime in February. It takes about nine months to film and then there are a couple of months needed for the post-production, so we’re looking at about January to February 2020 for Season 5 at the earliest.
Without the Christmas break, The Outlander Season 4 finale will air around Jan. 27. There may be a week off at some point in the New Year, so maybe we’re looking at Feb. 3 or 10 as a finale date. Either way, it means we’re waiting about a year between the fourth season finale and the fifth season premiere.
If there was a two-week winter break, we could have had a finale later in February to ease some of the between-season Droughtlander a little. I’m not sure what I’d rather have if I’m honest.
