The Outlander Season 5 writer’s room is in action. It’s time to get to know one of the newer writers on the team.
While we may still be waiting for Outlander Season 4 and the filming for the fifth season won’t start until next year, the writers are already getting together. After all, they need to get the initial storyboard created and scripts written for Outlander Season 5.
The writers’ room has got together already. Jessica Carter on Twitter shared that her cousin has just started her first day as a staff writer. She hasn’t shared any details of how the process is going to go, but we do get the name of the new writer.

Jessica’s cousin is called Megan Ferrell Burke and she’s very new to professional writing jobs. Her IMDb profile only shows one previous writing credit for an episode of Manhatten. She wrote the episode titled “33” back in 2015. Ferrell Burke also worked as a writers’ assistant on the same production.
However, she was also involved in Lifetime’s Army Wives, as assistant to the executive producer and then the writers’ assistant according to her LinkedIn bio. This is a woman who has worked her way up and done some exciting projects along the way.
What will be interesting to know is whether she’d read the Outlander books before landing this position as Staff Writer for Outlander Season 5. The fifth season is likely to be based on the fifth book, “The Fiery Cross.”
I say “likely” because we haven’t had a confirmation either way. At the start of every season, there are conversations about whether to do two books for a season or half a book for a season. That could mean we get part of the fifth book only or some of the sixth book thrown in. We’ll have to wait and see!
Megan is a veteran. This could come in use for understanding more about military tactics and the life of soldiers, which will be important as we get deeper into the Revolutionary War period.
