The location hunt for the Game of Thrones prequel is underway. Some of the scenes will be shot in Scotland. Could this mean a location clash with Outlander Season 5?

While Game of Thrones has filmed mostly in Belfast (with some scenes in Croatia and Iceland), the prequel is moving across the water slightly. Set during “Age of Heroes,” the prequel will have some scenes in Scotland, according to The Express. Could this mean a clash of locations for Outlander Season 5?

Despite Outlander now mostly set in the Colonies from the book “The Fiery Cross,” filming will remain in Scotland. It’s cheaper, most of the cast is British, and the sets have already been created. It makes a lot of sense. Very few other American shows film in Scotland, so there hasn’t been a huge issue with clashing with other big dramas. Could that change this year?

More from Outlander News

The Game of Thrones prequel series, set long before the characters in the original series were even thought of, will be filmed partially in the Isle of Skye. This is a beautiful spot to the North East of the country, southwest of Stornoway.

There’s some excellent news. Outlander doesn’t film there, according to Visit Scotland. It’s never filmed on the island and there are no hints that the filming could move there at a later date. There would be no reason for a clash unless something major changed.

However, it is worth noting that the series based on the George R.R. Martin books has once filmed in an Outlander spot. Doune Castle stood in as Winterfell in the pilot episode of Game of Thrones, which became Castle Leoch in the Scottish-based series. Considering there’s no need for Claire and Jamie to return to Castle Leoch now, even if the prequels moved to Doune Castle again, there won’t be a location clash.

What we may find is that Scotland sees more tourists. Fans of Game of Thrones will want to see the locations used for the prequel series.
