While we may feel like Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe were snubbed by the Emmys, we can’t overlook the nomination the costume department received. Outlander fans and the cast took to Twitter in a reaction to the nomination.
It’s important to give credit where it’s due. While the series and actors may have been overlooked by the Emmys, there was an important nomination. Terry Dresbach and her team were nominated for Outstanding Period Costume for their work in Outlander Season 3, Episode 5, titled “Freedom and Whisky.” This is definitely a nomination we’re proud to see and so are the cast and fans.
Here’s a brief look at the reactions from all when the Emmy nomination was announced.
Co-stars thank the whole team

The Emmy nomination only mentions three names. However, there’s a whole team behind the scenes that help to create the costumes and dress the stars. Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan both made sure the whole team was mentioned in their thanks.
Fans were quick to reply to the tweets both shared. While there are condolences for not being nominated, many choose to keep the focus on the costuming department–and after all, they are part of the small village that makes this show possible.
Congrats to the whole Costume team!!! (Love you Dani!xx) https://t.co/IWkZJMTL9t

Huge Congratulations to @OutlanderCostum and the entire costume team (Terry, Nadine, Elle, Basia, Nina + all the team) who bring their best every season and make us the most spectacular costumes. ( + to Marnie who puts them on me) @Outlander_STARZ #welldone #Emmy2018

Terry Dresbach replied to Balfe’s comment, sharing that designing and creating the costumes for Claire has been the most “rewarding and creative endeavor.” Claire has certainly had a number of costumes over the series, especially since we’ve seen her in the 1940s to 1960s, as well as the clothing for the 18th century.
Thanks Cait! Designing your costumes has been the most rewarding and creative endeavor I have ever undertaken.

Sophie Skelton praises ‘half of becoming a character’
Skelton also shared her congratulations and excitement for the series being nominated for the costuming. She left a special comment to the whole team about how the costumes are half of the character. It likely makes it easier to feel part of the time period when you’re wearing vintage clothing!
Yayyyy!!! Congratulations team! Half of becoming a character starts with the clothes so, well done! but also - thank you 🙏 @TheEmmys #emmys2018 #Outlander https://t.co/4874Zkkpww

Excitement for Outlander Season 4
Fans have taken to Twitter to share their congratulations and excitement. One thing to look forward to now is all the amazing costumes in the fourth season. We’ve already had a glimpse of a few here and there, but there are likely to be many more. After all, we have Brianna and Roger in the 1960s-1970s and the multiple people in the 18th century, with Colonial life and extravagant balls.
Congratulations to you and your team, Terry!! So well deserved! Can't wait to see what you have in store for us in season 4! 👏🏼👏🏼

Congratulations on your nomination, Terry. You & your team so deserve the recognition & the Emmy. I love your attention to detail & the way you have aged & reused costumes, I've loved the costumes through all 3 seasons & can't wait to see your S4 costumes.

The Emmy nomination is certainly a well-deserved nomination for the whole of the costume department. Without them, we certainly wouldn’t have the show that we do. There would be many complaints about inaccuracies in the costuming taking away the focus from the story, such as was an issue with the likes of The White Queen and Reign.
Next: What's the real color of Claire's new Outlander Season 4 costume?
