When will Outlander Season 5 writing start?

Season 4 may only just be done, but we’re already looking ahead at Outlander Season 5. Just when will writing for the season start?

All eyes are currently on Outlander Season 5 writing. We know that filming will start in February, according to Cesar Domboy, but does that give us an idea as to when the writing will start? During a recent Twitter Q&A, Matt B. Roberts said the writers will start working on scripts “soon,” but what exactly does that mean?

Right now, the production is underway to plan out the season. A few months ago, Roberts had started re-reading “The Fiery Cross” to prepare for production. This is going to take some time, but certainly not too long. He’d made a point in saying that the script writing is a quarter of the whole production process.

Previously, Ron D. Moore had also shared a little about the behind-the-scenes tasks to give an insight of what to expect for them for Outlander Season 5. It takes time to go through each chapter and decide on the story for each hour, getting from the start to end in a way that brings up most of the fan-favorite moments in a logical way for the TV series.

So, with all that in mind, the Outlander Season 5 writing will begin soon. A lot of the work right now will be on the post production for Season 4. We can probably expect the writing to start around September at the latest to make sure as many of the scripts are ready in time for filming to start. This will allow the production to focus on only the filming and will allow the writers a break over Christmas. Last year, the writers were working over Christmas to stay ahead of the filming.
