Matt B. Roberts shared his thoughts on whether Outlander will ever go to the United States to film. It looks like you shouldn’t get your hopes up too much.

Outlander Season 1 filmed in Scotland. This was completely understandable since it was set here. While the Paris scenes were filmed in Prague and Jamaica was filmed in South Africa, the locations made some sense. Weather conditions were similar. It was expected that Season 4 would head to the States to film the Colonies. Instead, it remained in Scotland.

That did make some sense since there were some moments that were in Scotland. However, what about now that most of the show will be set in the Colonies? Will the series ever film in the U.S.? Will those located in the States ever get a chance to see filming locations in their own country?

Well, it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen anytime soon. During a Twitter Q&A, showrunner Matt B. Roberts was asked if the filming would ever make it to the States–more importantly, were there plans for this? Roberts’ answer was short and to the point; “No.”

As it was a quickfire Q&A for the most part and this was a yes/no question, the short answer isn’t that surprising. He never went into any more detail in follow-up questions fans may have had about that. Roberts did, however, share that filming in Scotland was one of his favorite elements about the series, so it looks like he wouldn’t want to travel to the other side of the Atlantic to film.

It’s not like it’s impossible to turn Scotland into North Carolina. The series is proving it can do that with Outlander Season 4, thanks to Jon Gary Steele. The settings are very much the same and it will make it easier to cast Scottish actors for the important parts.
