Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have shared teases of the Outlander Season 4 filming. They’re onto the night shoots, but what does this mean for the finale?

We know Outlander Season 4 is definitely onto the finale. Sophie Skelton confirmed this by mentioning a read-through last week. The filming also has to wrap very soon, which means they must be near the end right now. Well, it looks like something big is happening, as Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have shared teases of the Outlander Season 4 filming onto night shoots.

Night shoots tends to mean something dramatic. Think about the biggest moments in previous seasons. They’ve usually been at night, including Mary’s rape in Paris and getting ready to head off into battle in “Prestonpans.” The Colonies were a dangerous place and traveling at night was never a good idea. With that in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising if something big was coming with these night shoots.

The cast and crew have also been extremely silent during this stage of Outlander Season 4 filming. This suggests that they’re getting close to the end and don’t want any spoilers getting out. While many will know how “Drums of Autumn” ends, there’s always the chance that a few changes will be made to bring the season to a close, ready for the confirmed fifth season. After all, the showrunners will want to end the season with a small cliffhanger to encourage people to tune in for the next season.

We’ll find out what these night shoots have involved sometime next year. With the premiere in November and 13 episodes, the finale would air in February 2019 even if Starz didn’t take a break over the holiday season. Chances are there will be at least a two-week break over Christmas and New Year from new episodes, so we’re looking at mid-February to early-March to see the Outlander Season 4 finale.
