Starz has put Outlander forward for a number of Emmy considerations. What exactly does this mean for the show and the awards?

The Emmys are coming up and Starz has put forward a number of its shows for various categories. Does this mean they’re up for the awards? Not quite. Here’s a breakdown of the categories Outlander is up for and what it means for the show and awards season.

What is this stage of the Emmys?

Right now, the Emmys is in the consideration stage. This is when various networks put their shows forward for specific award considerations. They can put through as many as they want, including putting multiple people in for the same award.

For example, Outlander has three people in consideration for Best Drama Supporting Actor: Tobias Menzies, David Berry, and Richard Rankin. Does that mean all three will be nominated for an award? Most likely not. It is possible for mutliple people from the same show to be nominated but highly unlikely.

At the consideration stage, the Emmy officials will look through the clips provided for the various categories. We will find out on July 12 which shows (and actors) have been selected for nominations.

What does this mean?

So far, Starz has put Outlander forward for seven categories, with three actors for one of those. With that in mind, the show currently has 10 chances of just being nominated for one single award. The categories put forward are:

  • Drama Series
  • Drama Actress – Caitriona Balfe
  • Drama Actor – Sam Heughan
  • Drama Supporting Actress – Sophie Skelton
  • Drama Supporting Actor – David Berry, Tobias Menzies, Richard Rankin
  • Drama Guest Actress – Lotte Verbeek
  • Drama Guest Actor – Duncan Lacroix
