Alec Newman has been confirmed as an Outlander Season 4 character. Now it’s time to delve into the actor to find out more about his acting and experience.

One thing I’ve done when I’ve learned of new Outlander Season 4 casting announcements is look into the actors. Alec Newman is the latest and has an extensive resume to delve into. Here’s a look at his past work and more to get an idea of what to expect from him in the series.

He been an actor for more than 20 years

Unlike the Outlander leads, Newman has an acting resume dating back more than 20 years. In 1996, he picked up his first role in Lloyds Bank Channel 4 Film Challenge, playing John in the episode “Cold Season.” However, most will likely know his second role more prominently. He played Stephen Burns in Taggart‘s episode, “Apocalypse.” His character was the stepson of the cult leader in the episode.

Since then, he’s mostly been a guest star in a range of shows, both in Britain and America.

Buffy fans will know him

Fans of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off, Angel, will instantly recognize Newman. He played the role of Drogyn in the fifth season, guest starring for two episodes with the first as “A Hole in the Well.”

He was a character who was also known as the Keeper of the Deeper Well and was an ally of Angel. Compelled to answer all questions truthfully, he didn’t like being asked questions so made it clear from the start that he wouldn’t help if that happened and threatened to kill Spike. He was able to hold his own on screen with two beloved characters in the franchise, so there are hopes for him in Outlander.

In case you’re worried about a character who is from the 18th century, there’s no need to. Newman has experience in period dramas and playing characters from decades and centuries in the past. One of his major roles was as Barnabas Collins in the 2005 TV movie Dark Shadows.

The movie was based on the original TV series, which saw the main character, Barnabas, revealed as the vampire owner of the Collins estate.

A mixture of genres and types of characters aren’t a problem

Newman has done it all. He’s taken on dark, mysterious characters, helpful immortals, and even the voice of sadistic murderers. No part is too small and he always puts his full effort into them. It doesn’t matter the genre or the type of character. Newman will always put his heart into them and embody each one. We can expect good things for Outlander Season 4.

His Scottish accent will be genuine

Newman is a Glasgow actor, so there’s no need to worry about that Scottish accent. I know bad accents are a problem for many fans of the show, so rest assured that you’ll be able to close your eyes and listen with a smile during Newman’s episode for Outlander Season 4.
