Cumbernauld Glen was the location for an iconic scene in Outlander Season 3 and now filming returns.

More from Outlander News

When fans think about Outlander, the settings that stand out include Castle Leoch, Lallybroch and the print shop. The Battle of Culloden was a focal point for Season 2, with that particular British battle wrapping with the Season 3 premiere. Despite it being set on the very real battle at Culloden Moor, the battle scenes were filmed at Cumbernauld Glen.

Now Outlander is returning to the location. Jan. 29 and 30 will see the filming crew back in the area, although it’s unclear just which scenes are being filmed right now.

The area isn’t part of most official tours for the series. It’s generally forgotten about, especially since the Battle of Culloden was only in the Season 3 premiere. Many tours will likely start adding it in and fans looking to create their own tour will certainly want to add the location in when around the Glasgow area.

The North Lanarkshire spot has its own 16th century dovecot and is part of the Scottish Wildlife Trust. In fact, the show has had to work with both the Scottish Wildlife Trust and North Lanarkshire Council to film in the area. It’s a beautiful spot with bluebells and snowdrops growing at various points of the year. Fans shouldn’t be that surprised this location was chosen for the iconic battle scene.

This isn’t the first time the show is filming in a previously used location this month. The crew revisited Falkland, Fife to film some of the Inverness scenes last week. Fans got to see Richard Rankin, who plays Roger Wakefield MacKenzie on the series, but noted that Sophie Skelton wasn’t there. Fans who haven’t read the books and don’t know spoilers will be curious as to where Brianna is during these scenes.

Tourists to Cumbernauld Glen are asked to be respectful of the filming schedule. The crew will be there for two days and then move onto the next shooting location.
