#1. His goodbye to Lord John
It didn’t take long for Jamie to escape captivity this time. Rather than fighting or tricking his way out, Jamie has a few people come to his rescue. Fergus turned to Lord John, who was certainly in a position to do something to help his friend. I wish I could have seen Lord John’s reaction to Lord John hearing Jamie had gotten himself in trouble with the law. Again!
Regardless, Lord John as a true friend and helped Jamie. After that it was time for them to separate again. It was a beautiful moment, as far more was said between them than the words shared.
#2. Remembering the battlefield
After finding Claire at Rose Hall, the two made it to the caves. On the way, they came across Yi Tien Cho and Margaret Campbell. Margaret took one look at Jamie and went into a trance. She saw the rabbit on the battlefield of Culloden.
Within that moment, Jamie knew that Margaret’s gifts were true. He hadn’t told anyone about the rabbit, so how did she know? The fear, confusion, and shock all came through, as he thought back to that moment in the season 3 premiere.
#3. Realizing Margaret was channeling Brianna
Shortly after the memory of Culloden, Jamie had his third great moment. Margaret took both Claire and Jamie’s hands and started to channel Brianna. As Jamie realized who Margaret had become, there was a look of longing and happiness. He realized that his daughter really was somewhere out there and not just images in photographs.
That look didn’t stay for long. Brianna told them about the monster coming to get them and Jamie pulled away. As Margaret turned her attention back to Claire, Jamie had a look of fear and distress. He may never have met Brianna but he needed to save her.
#4. The fear of losing Claire
During the storm, Claire went overboard. Jamie did the only thing he knew. He dived into the water to save her. Bringing her back to the top, there was an instant fear of losing her. He was certain that she had died in the water, but made it desperately clear that he it couldn’t happen.
Even when they wash ashore, the fear remained. The look on his face as he looked at Claire’s body was reminiscent of the old Jamie. Outlander showed us that he was still in there somewhere and Claire was bringing him back out.
#5. Not knowing the Artemis’ fate
When Claire did wake up on the beach, there were suddenly questions about the Artemis. Jamie had no idea, but his expression said more than that. He feared the worst; that the ship had gone down and everyone aboard was lost at sea. His eyes told viewers of the horror, fears, sadness, and regret of everything that had happened.
No words were said between the couple. Claire just pulled him in for a hug to comfort him, as he worried about Young Ian, Fergus, Marsali, and the others.
