The Outlander season 3 finished its season with good results and prospects for the future.

“Eye of the Storm” was the final episode of Outlander season 3. While book purists have had their negative says of the series, the ratings have held relatively strong. Matt B. Roberts took to Twitter to thank fans for the highest rated season so far and Ron D. Moore says he has no fears about getting renewed for a fifth season (season 4 is already in the works, remember).

But what exactly were the ratings for the season 3 finale? They weren’t perfect and didn’t see an uptick most show finales did, but they were positive for the Sunday night cable show.

More from Outlander News

The Starz show came in at 0.3 in the demo and 1.402 million viewers in total. The demo remained steady from the previous weeks, while the total audience was slightly down from the previous week. It wasn’t a big drop, though.

It’s hard to get a good idea of the ratings for Outlander though. Many fans will sign up for the Starz App and watch through that rather than live at 8 p.m. EST. Starz App viewers are able to get access from midnight on the Sunday, meaning they’re able to watch it throughout the day and have no need to tune in live.

The show is also available the next day around the world. Both United Kingdom and Australian viewers especially get it the very next day (well, Tuesdays for Australian viewers due to the time difference) and these viewing figures are likely taken into account by Starz when deciding whether to renew the show.

Overall, Outlander season 3 ratings did see an uptick from the season 2 ratings. Part of this will be the move from a Saturday to a Sunday night. Even when The Walking Dead returned for season 8, the time-travelling romance show didn’t suffer dramatically. Considering Starz renewed the show for two seasons after the season 2 ratings, it would be ridiculous if the network refused to renew the show for season 5. Talks are already happening to try to keep Droughtlander to a minimum.
